Without Measure in the Netherlands, Part 2 (Continued)

Inspired by Shelley Bovey, Radiance, NAAFA, Dimensions, William J. Fabrey and many other authors, I published the first book on Size acceptance in the Netherlands. Together with that came a card game that was attacking, in a humorous way, the prejudice and the bias against big people. It was a great success and I was able to establish the size acceptance ideas here in Holland.

From that time on, we became often invited guests on various radio and TV shows about the subject. After a while we decided to join forces with the Dutch Obesity Organisation. Holland is a small country (16 million people). The board and chairman of that organisation was changed and they became more and more ready to advocate size acceptance as well. There were even talks about joining together, but we decided to stay independent and see if there were projects we could do together.

Until now, we do work on that basis and sometimes I do speak on behalf of both organisations when needed and nobody else is available. No one is paid; it is all done by volunteers.

We often join protest letters or inform the press about what we find wrong in society's behaviour towards overweight etc. When the ISAA was born, we became immediately a member and whenever we go to court or appear in the newspapers, at radio or TV interviews, we always insist on being announced as: "Bond van Formaat, representing the International Size Acceptance Association in the Netherlands"!

And…I must admit, when asked which countries are joined in ISAA, I tend to exaggerate a bit and say that I don't know it exactly, but that I do estimate that it is about some 68% of the entire world! Who cares? Let the fatphobes tremble with fear! That will teach them right!

Marja Visser In Part III, I will tell you about our court fights with the Dutch Hoffman La Roche company, the wicked manufacturers of a hilarious, medieval, weird and useless slimming slime pill. For now: Lots of love and many regards from Holland and enjoy the summer, or the winter, depending on where you live.

If any of you is visiting Holland this summer: you are welcome, just e-mail me when you will arrive! Bye and see you soon again!
