The Sky Is No Longer The Limit! The picture above this editorial is the very first Without Measure print newsletter! It was published to our members in August 1997, one month after ISAA went public with our website on July 1st of that year. ISAA's had quite an interesting roller-coaster ride since then -- but overall it's been a great, positive experience. ISAA has made so many friends and allies, chapters (including new virtual chapters), branches and affiliations have developed, people have been informed about size-related issues and lives have been changed. This issue, we look at the past, the present and explore the possible future of ISAA. In our cover story, we'll take a look at a timeline of ISAA's history and read a personal perspective on that history by Lynda Finn. In the more recent part of the timeline story, we'll show you just how much media attention ISAA has received recently because of Southwest Airlines. Later in the issue, we'll also have some of public reaction to SWA's "People of Size" policy. Want more? We have a ton of extra great stuff for you this issue! WOM will feature an incredible Q & A interview with Jennifer Portnick (who won her Jazzercise case) and a new column written by Gabrielle Taber (one of the plus-size models from the CURVE film who also wrote some articles for our May 2002 issue), Speak Your Peace from Gia Melissa Marciano (of Austin, Texas-based rock band Ursula's Curse), Russell Williams in Russell's Corner, SueW's column, part two of Marja Visser's international perspective on the Netherlands and we introduce another new column -- this one by plus-size fitness professional Kelly Bliss! Still want more? How about an exclusive look into "The Making of Big As Life: Obesity In America?" This account of documentary-making for the Discovery Channel is written by none other than ISAA's Diversity Awareness Coordinator, Doris Skiba, who appeared in the docunmentary, along with ISAA's Russell Williams and Robert Bain. Want even more? How about a follow-up on Anamarie Martinez-Regino, written by her mother, Adela Martinez! STILL not satisified? Okay! We debut not one but TWO Letters To The Editor sections this issue -- and we'd love even MORE of your input about WOM! So, please feel free to fire off your opinions about this issue of WOM to: We hope you enjoy this special ISAA Anniversary issue of WOM. |
