WOM Editorial

Allen and Angel Steadham

Without Measure, Now Within Reason
Editorial by ISAA Director Allen Steadham

In January, Without Measure (WOM) Editor Grace Harvey and I discussed taking ISAA's occasional WOM newsletter and transforming it into a full-blown electronic magazine (e-zine). We realized ISAA was being limited by budgetary constraints for printing and mailing a paper newsletter. Everything was black and white and the newsletter was 8 pages at best. We almost always had content for the newsletter, it was just a matter of getting it distributed (and distributed on a regular basis).

With an e-zine, the rules suddenly change. The freedom of the internet (and the e-zine) increases potential readership, allows full-color design and layout and eliminates printing and mailing costs. It was a no-brainer. So we started contacting writers and potential writers, putting together story ideas for the first and second issues and setting deadlines.

The next step was giving WOM its own home, its own identity. So, we took the step of purchasing the domain name withoutmeasure.com

Even though WOM is an extension of ISAA, we wanted to give WOM room to grow.

We hope you enjoy this first issue. We have special features on The Padded Lillies; Lynda Finn, author of Largely Happy; Ryan Mundt, who won a size discrimination case; Christine Hartline, Executive Director of the Eating Disorders and Referral Center in San Diego, California; and the return of Doris Skiba, M.A.. We also have integrated the BBTeen E-zine into its own section of WOM, called BBTEENZ and have started a new opinion section called Speak Your Peace. This issue also introduces regular columns by ISAA Activism Vice-President Russell Williams and ISAA's weight loss surgery (WLS) advisor, Sue W. as well as updates on ISAA chapters and branches.

We'd love to get your feedback on this issue and will start a "Letters To The Editor" page starting next issue. Send your raves, rants and comments to us at: womeasure@gmail.com

We'll put as many online as we can squeeze into each issue, we promise!

I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who helped make this idea into a reality:
God and Jesus, Grace Harvey, my wife Angel (for those last minute style-improving recommendations and for agreeing to be BBTeenz Editor), all the BBTeenz content contributors, Russell Williams, Lynda Finn, Doris Skiba (MA), Ryan Mundt, the Padded Lillies, Sue W, Christine Hartline (MA), Angela Rodriguez (thanks for the e-mail list idea!), the Superfriends, ISAA members and contributors (financial and content) and everyone actively working to make a difference with size acceptance. Thank you for all your hard work and sacrifice.

Please take advantage of the table of contents (below the editorial) -- and wait till you see what we have in store for next issue!

Best Wishes,
Allen Steadham, Director
International Size Acceptance Association
