AUSTIN, TX - The International Size Acceptance Association (ISAA) has developed a solution to the "obesity epidemic." This solution addresses multiple health-related aspects of the issue without the implementation of weight loss.

ISAA believes that the last 30 years have proven that warnings about the dangers of obesity and the offerings of diets has not led to thinness but has led to fatter, less healthy people.

ISAA also believes that fitness and thinness are not synonyms. There are fat people who become fit and healthy.

ISAA's "Respect Fitness Health" initiative encourages health and well being independent of weight. (http://www.size-acceptance.org/rfh)

RESPECT: Because you must respect yourself in order to succeed

When people are ignored, berated or not accepted because of their physical appearance, whatever self-esteem they have is systematically dismantled and destroyed over time. This leaves individuals especially susceptible to eating disorders and other self-destructive behaviors. ISAA believes that every human being is deserving of a fundamental level of respect.

FITNESS: Because people of all sizes can become more fit

According to a 1995 Cooper Institute Study of 45,000 men, fat men who were fit lived longer than thin men who were not fit. ISAA is committed to helping encourage people of all sizes to strive for higher levels of fitness and improve their overall quality of life.

HEALTH: Because everyone could benefit from healthier food choices

Modern work and family schedules are astoundingly fast and frantic, leaving little time for home-cooked or healthy meals. ISAA is committed to helping inform the public about healthier food choices.

ISAA's Mission is to promote size acceptance and help to end size discrimination throughout the world by means of advocacy and visible, lawful actions.
