Announcement From The Director

This document was created on May 17, 2000

The International Size Acceptance Association (ISAA) was founded in July 1997 with a Mission to promote size acceptance and fight size discrimination throughout the world by means of advocacy and visible, lawful actions.

We stated then that ISAA's primary purpose is to end the most common form of size discrimination and bigotry--that against fat children and adults. We also stated that ISAA will strive to defend the human rights of members affected by other forms of size discrimination as well.

Since 1997, ISAA has accomplished much in the struggle to promote size acceptance and to help end size discrimination based on weight. Now ISAA would like to establish focus groups to help determine the needs of people who face height discrimination (tall or short) as well as those who face discrimination for being naturally thin.

The goal of these focus groups will be to act as a part of ISAA, being comprised of individuals who will communicate with one another within each group, establish strategies to bring about change for the community they are advocating for and report those strategies to the ISAA Board of Directors. ISAA's Board of Directors will then work with the focus groups to bring about the best means of implementing the proposed strategies.

Please consider becoming involved with one of the following focus groups (or perhaps you know someone who could benefit from becoming involved):

IMPORTANT NOTE: You must be accepting of ALL SIZES in order to participate in ANY of these groups.

Thank you for your interest in size acceptance and in ISAA. We look forward to building more bridges to promote size acceptance and help end size discrimination for people of all sizes.

Sincerely,

Allen Steadham
Director ISAA

This matter was unanimously agreed upon by the ISAA Board of Directors.
